Veterans Health Administration

Baltimore VA Medical Center
The Baltimore VA Medical Center (VAMC) offers veterans state-of-the-art medical technology, clinical services and research programs. In addition, The Baltimore VA Medical Center is the acute medical and surgical care facility for the VA Maryland Health Care System and offers a full range of inpatient, outpatient and primary care services.

Perry Point VA Medical Center
The Perry Point VA Medical Center provides comprehensive mental health care to veterans in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. The Medical Center, part of the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5), offers long and short-term inpatient mental health care, an inpatient alcohol and substance abuse treatment program; specialized treatment programs, and rehabilitation services.
In addition, Perry Point VAMC also offers a full range of inpatient medical, intermediate and long-term care programs, including a nursing home, a chronic ventilator care unit, a specialized unit for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and a hospice care section; and a domiciliary care program that helps to rehabilitate homeless veterans through counseling, job assistance and home placement.

Loch Raven VA Community Living and Rehabilitation Center
The Loch Raven VA Community Living and Rehabilitation Center specializes in providing rehabilitation and post-acute care for patients in the VA Maryland Health Care System. The center coordinates the delivery of rehabilitation services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, kinesiotherapy and recreation therapy, to achieve the highest level of recovery and independence for Maryland’s veterans. The center also provides hospice and nursing home care to veterans requiring non-acute inpatient care, in addition to offering specialized treatment for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

VAMC Outpatient Care Facilities
In addition to the primary care clinics located at the Baltimore and Perry Point VA Medical Centers, there are nine community based outpatient clinics that are conveniently located throughout the state. These facilities bring VA health care directly into local communities and allow veterans to receive their primary care services close to where they live and work.

Vet Centers
Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to all veterans who served in any combat zone. Services are also available for their family members for military related issues. They offer readjustment and mental health counseling, providing vets and their families with resources to handle post-deployment issues. To access care at a Vet Center, a person will need to provide documentation proving their status as a combat veteran. The following documentation is accepted:
- A DD-214 indicating service in a designated combat theater of operations; or
- Proof of receipt of the Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Armed
Forces Expeditionary Medal; Kosovo Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism
Expeditionary Medal (does not include Global War on Terrorism Service Medal); or
Southwest Asia Campaign Medal; or - Proof of receipt of Hostile Fire or Imminent Danger Pay (commonly referred to as
“combat pay”) after November 11, 1998; or - Proof of exemption of Federal tax status for Hostile Fire or Imminent Danger Pay after November 11, 1998.
