Property Tax Exemption
A property tax exemption is available to the following individuals, for their primary residence located in the State of Maryland
- surviving spouse of active duty military personnel who died in the line of duty
- surviving spouse of a totally disabled veteran
- a spouse who receives the dependency and indemnity compensation

Death Benefit to Surviving Spouse or Estate of Maryland Resident Killed in Action
The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is awarding a death benefit of up to $125,000 to the surviving spouse, children, dependent parents or estate of a Maryland service personal who is killed in action, or as a direct result of a wound suffered in action, in Afghanistan or its contiguous airspace, or Iraq or its contiguous waters or airspace. Applications must be received within three years. The application process is outlined below.
Application for Death Benefits
The beneficiary, or an individual or agency applying on behalf of the beneficiary, must submit a letter of application to:
